The new tool, which has been designed for portrait, wedding, and event photographers, uses faces and skin tone as guidance to determine which adjustments to make to your photos. Smart Adjustments are here to help automate that part of your workflow. Getting a consistent look across many images can be difficult and time-consuming if they are shot under different lighting conditions. Get the right look with Smart Adjustments Here’s a rundown to get you excited to work faster, together, and, ultimately, less. you will never ever get exactly the same result from 2 different apps, because they usually run different algorithms to do the same thing.Capture One Pro 23 offers a bunch of new tools and functionalities to make your workflow more efficient and flexible.the black and white points in that same levels tools is much better handled by a simple tone curve, which also gives you much more editing posibilities.I think that the middle point in the CO levels tool does the same as the Lightness slider in the Exposure tool.RT + Gimp (used gimp for some dodge/burn and a custom vignette)Įven though you haven’t explicitly asked for advice, there are some things I wish to add: Funny how edits on 2 different days can end up different. Note the RT image does have a warmer white balance and saturation. I feel I should be able to make the switch and save myself boatloads of money for lenses. So with some perseverance and some RTFM I have made progress. This is moot as it can be done with curves I just find levels a little easier for certain quick adjustments like shifting the middle point (Gamma I believe) a touch which I just did in gimp instead. The other shows the image with a linear tone curve and no adjustments (a neutral raw histogram) Another feature I miss is a levels tool that works in Raw. One shows the Representation of the image with the Tone Curve and adjustments applied. One nice feature I do miss is that Capture One has 2 histogram tools. Image quality wise RT can easily keep up with Capture One that is for sure. Just wow RT can do some impressive stuff once the image is setup right. Knowing the exposure on the image was fine I decided to use a Neutral profile and build a custom tone curve with a more gradual ramp on the highlights as well as a smaller dip in the shadows. This lead to some harsh highlights and deep shadows. The scene has some really broad dynamic range to it due to the time of day and the open blue sky (even tho no sky is in the image). I decided for this particular image the auto tone curve which was being generated by the default profile was causing issues. Lots of great info in the RawPedia even if some info is not quite complete yet. I did promise myself to give the software a fair shot and not give up after all. So soon I started to scour the RawPedia just trying to figure out how and what the various tools did. So I put the software on the back burner for a few days. At the same time some of the shots were taken in really harsh dynamic range conditions forcing for some significant under exposure due to me not really understanding how to do bracketing. I am a newer photographer barely with 1 year experience at this point so some of my shots are not ideally exposed and if I could go back in time I could easily correct that now. I was just unable to get the images to cooperate. Then again my Mac had a i5, 4k monitor and only 8GB of ram… This Lenovo has a i7-9700T and 32GB of Ram huge difference by the way and I am using a SW240 BenQ 1920x1200 monitor.Īt first I was getting really frustrated with RT. In some cases it can be true especially under certain circumstances like Mac where I was having crazy amounts of issues getting the Open Source software to run at a usable speed.įast forward to the future with no Mac and wow performance is much better. I like many others out there fall victim to the belief that software you pay for must be better due to the fact that there are huge teams working on the products. Recently after getting rid of my Mac and switching to a beefy Lenovo workstation and upgrading to a wide gamut monitor I decided to dive in and give RT + Gimp a really good shot. (This crap is expensive as all hell… but really does much better then Lightroom ever could with maintaining natural color). For quite a while now I have been using Capture One Pro 20. Google had "lined up a series of hardware components and software partners and signaled to carriers that it was open to various degrees of cooperation". Google marketed the platform to handset makers and carriers on the promise of providing a flexible, upgradeable system. At Google, the team led by Rubin developed a mobile device platform powered by the Linux kernel. at the time, with the company having provided few details other than that it was making software for mobile phones. Not much was known about the secretive Android Inc. Android's key employees, including Rubin, Miner, Sears, and White, joined Google as part of the acquisition. Shortly afterwards, Google acquired the company in July of that year for at least $50 million this was Google's "best deal ever" according to Google's then-vice president of corporate development, David Lawee, in 2010. In 2005, Rubin tried to negotiate deals with Samsung and HTC. Perlman refused a stake in the company, and has stated "I did it because I believed in the thing, and I wanted to help Andy." Steve Perlman, a close friend of Rubin, brought him $10,000 in cash in an envelope, and shortly thereafter wired an undisclosed amount as seed funding. Rubin had difficulty attracting investors early on, and Android was facing eviction from its office space. The company then decided that the market for cameras was not large enough for its goals, and five months later it had diverted its efforts and was pitching Android as a handset operating system that would rival Symbian and Microsoft Windows Mobile. The early intentions of the company were to develop an advanced operating system for digital cameras, and this was the basis of its pitch to investors in April 2004. Rubin described the Android project as having "tremendous potential in developing smarter mobile devices that are more aware of its owner's location and preferences". was founded in Palo Alto, California, in October 2003 by Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White. As of May 2021, it had over three billion monthly active users, the largest installed base of any operating system in the world, and as of January 2021, the Google Play Store featured over 3 million apps. Software packages on Android, which use the APK format, are generally distributed through proprietary application stores like Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore (including for Windows 11), Samsung Galaxy Store, Huawei AppGallery, Cafe Bazaar, GetJar, and Aptoide, or open source platforms like F-Droid.Īndroid has been the best-selling OS worldwide on smartphones since 2011 and on tablets since 2013. Some well-known derivatives include Android TV for televisions and Wear OS for wearables, both developed by Google. The source code has been used to develop variants of Android on a range of other electronics, such as game consoles, digital cameras, portable media players, and PCs, each with a specialized user interface. Competing ecosystems and forks of AOSP include Fire OS (developed by Amazon), ColorOS by Oppo, OriginOS by Vivo, MagicUI by Honor, or custom ROMs such as LineageOS. Over 70 percent of smartphones based on the Android Open Source Project run Google's ecosystem (which is known simply as Android), some with vendor-customized user interfaces and software suites, such as TouchWiz and later One UI by Samsung and HTC Sense. While AOSP is free, the "Android" name and logo are trademarks of Google, which imposes standards to restrict the use of Android branding by "uncertified" devices outside their ecosystem. Firebase Cloud Messaging is used for push notifications. However, most devices run on the proprietary Android version developed by Google, which ships with additional proprietary closed-source software pre-installed, most notably Google Mobile Services (GMS) which includes core apps such as Google Chrome, the digital distribution platform Google Play, and the associated Google Play Services development platform. It was unveiled in November 2007, with the first commercial Android device, the HTC Dream, being launched in September 2008.Īt its core, the operating system is known as the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and is free and open-source software (FOSS) primarily licensed under the Apache License. Android is developed by a consortium of developers known as the Open Handset Alliance, though its most widely used version is primarily developed by Google. The kernel of NeXTSTEP is based upon the Mach kernel, which was originally developed at Carnegie Mellon University, with additional kernel layers and low-level user space code derived from parts of BSD. There, the Unix-like NeXTSTEP operating system was developed, before being launched in 1989. The heritage of what would become macOS had originated at NeXT, a company founded by Steve Jobs following his departure from Apple in 1985. As of 2023, the most recent release of macOS is macOS 14 Sonoma. In 2020, Apple began the Apple silicon transition, using self-designed, 64-bit ARM-based Apple M series processors on the latest Macintosh computers. In 2006, Apple transitioned to the Intel architecture with a line of Macs using Intel Core processors. MacOS has supported three major processor architectures, beginning with PowerPC-based Macs in 1999. After sixteen distinct versions of macOS 10, macOS Big Sur was presented as version 11 in 2020, and every subsequent version has also incremented the major version number, similarly to classic Mac OS and iOS. Apple shortened the name to "OS X" in 2011 and then changed it to "macOS" in 2016 to align with the branding of Apple's other operating systems, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS. The derivatives of macOS are Apple's other operating systems: iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and audioOS.Ī prominent part of macOS's original brand identity was the use of Roman numeral X, pronounced "ten", as well as code naming each release after species of big cats, or places within California. All releases from Mac OS X Leopard onward with the exclusion of Mac OS X Lion are UNIX 03 certified. The first desktop version, Mac OS X 10.0, was released on March 24, 2001. During this time, Apple computers co-founder Steve Jobs had left Apple and started his own company, NeXT, developing the NeXTSTEP platform that would later be acquired by Apple to form the basis of Mac OS X. Mac OS X succeeded classic Mac OS, a Macintosh operating system from 1984 to 2001. Within the market of desktop and laptop computers, it is the second most widely used desktop OS, after Microsoft Windows and ahead of all Linux machines, including ChromeOS. It is the primary operating system for Apple's Mac computers. If you use thermal curtains on all of your windows that get a lot of natural light or are exposed to wind, you may see a drop in your energy bill. One of the biggest benefits of thermal curtains is the cost savings you see on your energy bill. This means that regardless of the weather outside, your room will be a comfortable temperature. They are designed to keep your room at a stable temperature by preventing air from escaping through the window or coming in through the window. Thermal curtains are made from thick fabrics like cotton or polyester and have multiple layers. In order to keep your room at a consistent temperature no matter the weather, you need thermal curtains. When it is cold outside, the room can feel chilly, and when it’s warm the room can overheat. However, one of the issues many people have with windows is that they can affect the temperature of your room. They can help your space feel cheery and lively, and pick up your mood as well. Blackout curtains can be a premium product, and often the price reflects that, but there are plenty of solid options at every price point.Having large windows in your home or office is a blessing when you want to brighten things up and let natural light into the room. While there are some higher-end options on this list, I've tried to make most of my choices more affordable to most. And, of course, cost was also a big factor we took into consideration. (Ask me how I know.)Įvery curtain on this list has been chosen for quality, style, and performance. Linen and other fabrics can be gorgeous, but if your baby accidentally (or not so accidentally) flings a dirty diaper at the curtain in a fit of “why am I dressed?” rage, you’re not going to want to explain that to the dry cleaner. Blinds might not be as pretty, but they allow the blackout curtains to be super close to the wall.Īs far as fabrics for nurseries go, I really like a machine-washable curtain. Having had both, I prefer flush-mounted cordless blinds for the nursery and sheers in my own room. If you don't want it to be dark all the time but still want some privacy, blinds or sheers behind the curtains are a great option. They do tend to cost more, and that's certainly a consideration. Lined blackout curtains are really the best for temperature regulation, and also if you want a light-colored curtain that blocks the sun. Styleīlackout curtains tend to fall into two categories: lined and unlined. I’ve found that the C-shaped curtain rods that can be drilled right into the studs are the sturdiest and provide the most light-blocking capabilities, as they tend to be closer to the window or wall than other rods. Also, if they’re not secured well enough, your baby may pull the rod down. Sticky, dirty hands and white curtains aren’t exactly a match made in heaven. Though, if your baby is mobile and plays in their nursery, this isn’t always the best option. Ideally, the curtains should rise at least eight to 10 inches above the top of the window, and drape as much as that below, but to the floor is better for light blocking. A child’s crib or bed should be at least 2 feet away from the windows.” She adds, “Some children also develop a fear of the dark around 2 years of age, so it's wise to use a dim night light to help assuage the fear." What to ConsiderĪs long as they're out of reach and there's light enough for comfort and safety, there are a few main things you want to consider when you're shopping for blackout curtains for your baby's nursery. First, Poinsett points out, “The curtain pulls should be out of reach of children to prevent strangulation risk. They’re not perfect, though, so you should consider a few things. They can keep the heat out in the summer and the warmth in during the winter - and that alone makes them worth their cost. They also help keep the room at a stable temperature, which Poinsett notes is another benefit that helps keep your baby comfortable while they snooze. The brain releases melatonin, a hormone that induces sleep in response to darkness.” As time changes or if you happen to have a baby that tends to be an early riser, blackout curtains can help them fall asleep and stay asleep. Pierrette Mimi Poinsett, MD of Mom Loves Best, says, “Blackout curtains can help promote sleep. Blackout curtains for the nursery can help with that, and our top picks prove they can look great at the same time - I promise.Īccording to experts, blackout curtains for nurseries even have health benefits. Getting your baby to sleep and keeping them asleep all night is a tricky thing at the best of times, but when you factor in the sun rising before you've even smelled your first cup of coffee, it's a total nightmare. To periodically clean the same data source, consider recording a macro or writing code to automate the entire process. Remove the original column (A), which converts the new column from B to A. Select the new column (B), copy it, and then paste as values into the new column (B). In an Excel table, a calculated column is automatically created with values filled down. Insert a new column (B) next to the original column (A) that needs cleaning.Īdd a formula that will transform the data at the top of the new column (B).įill down the formula in the new column (B). The general steps for manipulating a column are: Next, do tasks that do require column manipulation. For best results, use an Excel table.ĭo tasks that don't require column manipulation first, such as spell-checking or using the Find and Replace dialog box. Import the data from an external data source.Ĭreate a backup copy of the original data in a separate workbook.Įnsure that the data is in a tabular format of rows and columns with: similar data in each column, all columns and rows visible, and no blank rows within the range. The basic steps for cleaning data are as follows: For example, if you want to remove trailing spaces, you can create a new column to clean the data by using a formula, filling down the new column, converting that new column's formulas to values, and then removing the original column. Or, if you want to remove duplicate rows, you can quickly do this by using the Remove Duplicates dialog box.Īt other times, you may need to manipulate one or more columns by using a formula to convert the imported values into new values. For example, you can easily use Spell Checker to clean up misspelled words in columns that contain comments or descriptions. Sometimes, the task is straightforward and there is a specific feature that does the job for you. Fortunately, Excel has many features to help you get data in the precise format that you want. Before you can analyze the data, you often need to clean it up. This takes a lot of time that managers could otherwise spend on more important tasks. You don't always have control over the format and type of data that you import from an external data source, such as a database, text file, or a Web page. Managers usually have to remind employees to submit their timesheets on time, collect them into a common format, and make sure they are timely forwarded to accounting or another responsible department.Spreadsheets require too much administrative work. When a company systemizes its workflow with spreadsheets and chain emails, some data might slip through the cracks. There can be cases where employees misenter their work data, forget to send their timesheets altogether, or end up sending them to the wrong person.Spreadsheets are prone to human error and data loss.Online spreadsheets usually have a version history but they are most commonly downloaded locally and forwarded via email. Spreadsheets can be edited by anyone with access, which is why it’s hard to see who made the last changes.
